In February, John Gore Studios acquired a majority stake in Deep Fusion Films, the company Benjamin Field, Andrew Keats and I founded in Cardiff in 2023.
What we built at Deep Fusion was, as far as we know, one of the UK’s first fully insured, consent-based generative AI production pipelines. That phrase is a mouthful, and the important word in it is consent. The technology is only interesting to me if the people whose likeness, voice and work it touches have agreed to it, are credited for it, and are paid for it. Get that wrong and you do not have a production company, you have a lawsuit with a render queue.
John Gore put it better than I would: talent, imagination and collaboration are filmmaking’s core, and technology can open creative possibilities without replacing human artistry.
For us the deal is about reach. As I said at the time, it lets us embed our thinking across a broader creative ecosystem while staying grounded in respect for talent and IP. Deep Fusion keeps its leadership and its identity, and now sits alongside Hammer, Icon, Kaleidoscope, Angels Costumes, Silver Salt and Tyburn, which is a useful set of neighbours when the work spans documentary, factual and scripted.
It also means four of the things I do now sit inside one group. That is a much simpler story than the one I used to have to tell at parties.
